Why I’m Standing
I won’t be a councillor who rubber-stamps decisions or accepts the status quo. I believe in the power of people to create change and I will be your voice in the council chamber, pushing for fairness, democracy and a city that works for all of us.
The mainstream parties have let us down
It’s time for a new, fighting political movement that:
- Challenges austerity
- Defends refugees and oppressed communities
- Mobilises against the far right and rising racism
- Puts people before profits made by billionaires and millionaires
That’s why I’ve joined Your Party. Once it’s formally launched, I’ll work with other independent candidates determined to fight for real change.
Carol’s Fact File
Strongest Choice
She has worked as a volunteer with the Citizens Advice Bureau, which exposed the deep inequalities that exist even within relatively affluent areas like Moseley.
A Record Of Service
Carol studied teaching English language at Aston University and spent 15 years in Turkey enabling disadvantaged students to study at an English medium university, improving their employment opportunities. As a tutor in academic skills in Birmingham, she championed students’ rights where the system let them down and will stand up for young people as a councillor.
Humanitarian
Carol is an active member of Stop The War and Stand Up To Racism, and a committee member of Palestine Solidarity Campaign in the West Midlands. She has been central in building the Free Palestine movement in Birmingham. 🇵🇸
My Story
I’m a lifelong political activist. My journey began with the South Africa anti-apartheid campaign and I’ve organised community resistance to the poll tax, stood with the miners, marched for Longbridge, and joined millions protesting the Iraq War.
Growing up in West London in the 1970s during the rise of the National Front, I saw racism first-hand. Joining the Anti Nazi League, I realised it’s not enough to quietly oppose racism, we must actively challenge it, wherever it appears.

I believe we all deserve a community, a city, with cleaner air, safer streets, lower bills, secure jobs and a better quality of life. Let’s make choices that expand opportunities and make our community healthier and stronger.

Moseley’s Key Issues
Improving transport and traffic
We need traffic planning that reduces congestion, curbs speeding and improves air quality, while recognising people’s everyday needs. Better public transport, more resident-friendly parking, and safer walking and cycling routes can work together. Improved streets also means less stress for drivers.
Tackling the housing crisis
Everyone has the right to a decent home – whether you live with your family or on your own. We need strong regulation of HMOs to tackle bad landlords, alongside new, good-quality social housing that meets the needs of single people and families alike.
Making our streets cleaner and greener
Our community deserves well-funded refuse and street-cleaning services, with workers given the tools they need to do the job. Recycling should be expanded and waste reduced.
Providing more youth services
Young people in Moseley deserve more than cuts and closed doors. Investment in youth centres, sports, culture and training opportunities can offer real alternatives, build confidence and open pathways into employment.
Birmingham-Wide Issues
Democracy First
Sack the unelected commissioners and restore power to residents and accountable councillors.
Financial Justice
Recover the nearly £500 million overspend on the West Midlands pension fund and fight to reinstate the £1bn stripped from Birmingham’s budget since 2011.
Support for Palestine
End council ties with Barclays and divest pension funds from companies complicit in Israel’s crimes against Palestinians.
Better Coroner Services
Introduce digital autopsy technology and reduce burial delays.
End Pest Control Fees
Scrap pest control fees so all residents can access vital services.
A Fair Green Transition
Green policies must cut costs, create jobs and improve health. That means:
- Local green jobs with fair pay for public sector workers, including a fair settlement for the bin workers
- Investment in housing retrofits and repurposing existing buildings
- Fare-free public transport across Birmingham
- The Tyseley incinerator must be phased out for good
National Issues
Resisting The Rise Of Racism
Reform and the far right offer nothing but fear and scapegoating. We are offering hope, dignity, and real solutions.
Tackling The Climate Crisis
Environmental action must be about fairness as well as sustainability. Retrofitting homes to cut bills, creating new green jobs, expanding green spaces and delivering fare-free public transport will make life better for working people while protecting our future.
Justice For Palestine
These are grave violations of international law –displacement, oppression and genocide in Gaza. I stand with all people fighting for justice, peace and freedom.
Protect Our NHS
Oppose privatisation, underfunding, and fight to keep the NHS free and accessible for all.
Against Austerity
Reverse damaging cuts, protect frontline services, and invest in communities. Support introducing a wealth tax.
End the Two-Child Benefit Cap
Abolish this policy that pushes families into poverty and punishes children for simply being born.
Utilities Under Public Control
Bring energy, water, and transport into public ownership—run for people, not profit
Equality and Respect for All
Every individual deserves dignity, safety, and equality under the law – regardless of race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or age.
Moseley is a diverse and inclusive community. I say: zero tolerance of Islamophobia, refugees are not to blame for society’s problems, trans rights are human rights.
